About Ryan Rix

This site is published by Ryan Rix — a name you can blame for opinions you disagree with.

The actual writing is done by Anna Karina, who has spent years studying how prices, trade, money, and government actually work, and who believes the most important economic insights are also the simplest.

What We Believe

  1. Voluntary exchange makes both sides richer. Every trade is a bet that what you’re getting is worth more than what you’re giving up. When government forces a trade (through taxes, regulation, or prohibitions), someone always loses.

  2. Prices are information. A price tells you how scarce something is relative to how much people want it. When government controls prices, it blinds everyone to that information.

  3. Competition helps the poor more than regulation. The 2% rule (Nordhaus): entrepreneurs capture about 2% of the value they create. Consumers — especially poor consumers — get the other 98%. The fastest way to help poor people is to let more people compete to serve them.

  4. Most economic arguments are not about economics. They are about who gets to decide. Politicians want you to believe they can manage the economy better than millions of people making their own choices. They can’t.

  5. Tax-and-spend has consequences. Every dollar the government spends must first be taken from someone. The question is not whether spending is good — it’s whether what’s taken is worth more to society than what’s foregone.

What We Don’t Do

  • We don’t endorse political parties. Every party gets economics wrong in its own way.
  • We don’t tell you who to vote for. If you need that, you’re not ready for this site.
  • We don’t pretend economics is neutral. The ideas here have implications. We state them directly.
